A New Documentary about Student Attendance at Furman University Athletic Events

If you are a Furman student, you have probably noticed something surprising about support for our athletic teams. We wear other school’s colors to class, leave football games after halftime, and go to the basketball games just for the free food.  It’s a common belief that, compared to many other Southern schools, Furman students lack school spirit.

In the documentary Furman Athletics: The Hidden Gem, Furman students Luke Dennison, Rob Kozloski, Courtney Mills, and Ally Patterson set out to discover the reasons for lack of Paladin enthusiasm.  We interviewed students, athletes, and athletic director Gary Clark, and then attended some sporting events to observe fan support.  We found that, in terms of the percentages of the student body that show up, Furman does pretty well compared to its state school counterparts.  So, while Furman students are sometimes too busy with their schoolwork to make it to every game, we have found that, in general, FU students still love their Paladins.
